Piero Gilardi was born in Turin in 1942, son of the painter and model Cecilia Lavelli.
He obtained great fame with the Tappeti natura (Nature Carpets) in 1965: these are works made in polyurethane (polyurethane), which reproduce in an extremely realistic way fragments of natural environment, for playful purposes but also to denounce a lifestyle considered increasingly artificial (Greto di torrente, Galleria d'arte moderna, Cagliari). These carpets were exhibited in Hamburg, Amsterdam, Brussels, Cologne, Milan, New York and Paris.
Since 1968 Gilardi interrupts the production of works to participate in the theoretical elaboration of new artistic trends: Arte Povera, Land Art and Antiform Art. He participates in 1969 as a collaborator in the realization of the first two international reviews of new trends Op Losses Schroeven at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and When Attitudes Become Form at the Kunsthalle in Bern.
Most of Gilardi's recent works share a common theme, namely the interaction between work and viewer.

Dimensions 40x40 cm
Artwork by Piero Gilardi entitled "White Grapes and Hibiscus".
These works are part of the strand "carpets of nature" made of polyurethane foam, which faithfully reproduce natural scenarios. The aim of the artist is ironic and polemic and takes inspiration from the American PopArt, in particular the creations of Claes Oldemburg with an ecological background.
The work is mounted in a plexiglass case that enhances it.
Gilardi's works are united by the interaction between the work and the viewer, creating new ways of approach between art and its user.
With these works, the artist refers to nature and its miracles.
