Renato Guttuso (Bagheria, 1911 - Rome, 1987) was one of the most important Italian artists of the twentieth century, and his name is among those who have marked the history of Italian art of the second half of the twentieth century.
If the raison d'être, initially, is to propose a modern art that does not break with tradition, it is then Mussolini to use the group Novecento to promote the art of the regime, making the movement of conservative imprint.
After the war, the art of Guttuso will acquire an increasing political weight, becoming one of the most interesting experiences of his time.
