Regular price€450,00 Sale priceBorn in Genoa in 1950, Francesco Musante graduated first from the Art School of the Ligurian capital and then from the Albertina branch of Fine Arts in Turin.
His first artistic experiments date back to 1967: mostly abstract research on large color fields. The following year, he began exhibiting his works in group exhibitions, painting competitions and prizes.
The works from the 1969-70s are influenced by Pop Art and Rauschenberg's Combine Paintings: the references to America are clear through the use of writing and the insertion of objects and wood.
From 1971 Musante decided to be a full-time artist.
In 1975 there was a change of course: Musante dedicated himself to figurative painting, initially creating a series of female figures inspired by Klimt and the Viennese Secession. A theme that he will dissect over the course of ten years using the most diverse techniques – from watercolour, to oil, to collage, to engraving – and various supports – canvas, wood, ceramic, plate, paper.
Little by little, the work with graphics and watercolors also begins, where we glimpse the first narrative and fantastic ideas that distinguish his work from 1985 until today: his "little men" appear that seem to come out of a book of fairy tales and inserted in contexts full of objects, characters and words. Musante's paintings finally emerge from dramatic atmospheres and lighten up.
In Francesco Musante's works, the funny protagonists float in surreal atmospheres, in which the visual experience is accompanied by poetic phrases that sometimes evoke characters such as Fabrizio de Andrè, Pablo Neruda and Hans Christian Andersen, famous for their romantic compositions. The serigraphs and unique works of the artist Musante are often enriched with multi-material details, collages and glitter, and are made in numerous formats. Among the latter, the most widespread is the 8x10 cm screen printing, a precious paper that represents a certain subject, for example the lucky charm.
Musante's works are widely requested by a private and institutional public, therefore his medium-high prices are stable.
